Sickness

March 24, 2009

So last week was possibly the busiest of my life. Barack cracked me up, though, with his special olympics remark. Don’t quit your day job for comedy, bud. Anyways here’s a quick recap.

Monday: volleyball game after school at grant. I am nearly shot after sarcastically complimenting a large Polynesian man’s guitar skill. I get in the don’t-give-a-fuck attitude when I play.

Tuesday: regular old day of school followed by the River Valley baseball
game vs Sutter. Shiva and I announced. We lost.

Wednesday: I wake up feeling horrible. Sore throat and a stuffed nose are never pleasant. We play that night so I load up on cold medicine in an attempt to kill the symptoms. I start with airborne, zicam, robitussin and advil. I maintain my treatment throughout the day until we leave for pioneer. I buy a 2 liter bottle of water and slam it on the way. We arrive and dress down. My splitting headache returns. I decide to pop more advil. We head out to the court to warm up and play. I can’t feel a thing at this point. My system is so loaded with over the counter cold remedies that I feel on a whole other planet. I now understand why people get addicted to robo. We run over pioneer (3-0) despite a setter under the influence.

Thursday:  I wake up feeling like shit yet again. I begin my homemade cold remedy regimen, but to a much lesser extent. My class partakes in the english final from hell courtesy of Eric Ricketts. I doubt I scored above a fifty. We play yet another volleyball game today, this time at Pleasant Valley in Chico. I passionately despise Pleasant Valley with every ounce of hatred in my body. I have never seen a more pompous, full-of-themself student body than the people I’ve become acquainted with from Pleasant Valley. Our team is tired. Five of us feel like hell. We lose game one pretty handily, fight back to win game two, but lose the last two with the help of our favorite referee Megan. I guarantee a victory next time we play Pleasant Valley.

Friday: The day I’ve been waiting for has finally arrived. Today we would take on McClatchy in our first home game. I wake up feeling like I got hit by a runaway Amtrak. I elect to pass on the home cold remedy today. The OTC overdose apparently failed miserably, so I choose instead to flood my body with water. It helps slightly. I leave school at ten after an uneventful period of Leadership and return home to nap. I wake up around four and get to the school. It turns out that McClatchy is horrible. I go on a 10-0 serving run in the beginning of game one and can tell that this is going to be an incredibly boring match. We kill them 3-0. However, it did surprise me how many people showed up. It made me happy, despite our lackadaisical performance. Our next game is a week from today at six. If you’re interested, it’s free entertainment.

In a week tainted with sickness, a few good things emerged. First, I learned that I can probably still play volleyball pretty well after a few drinks. Very useful. Second, my entire team learned that losing sucks and will not happen again. Lastly, I learned that Over-The-Counter medicines are drugs, too and should be avoided in excess at all costs.

I hope you had a nice week. Make this next one a good one
